From Financial Year to Tax Year: A Change to Remember

Tax terminology in India has changed with the new Income Tax Act, 2025. From 1 April 2026, the term “Tax Year” replaces “Previous Year,” while the term “Assessment Year” is discontinued for the new tax framework.

For example, income earned during FY 2026–27 will be referred to as Tax Year 2026–27.
